2024 in review

In 2024 we continued our focus on zero-knowledge technology and security. We expanded our team, delivered impactful training to hundreds of developers, and conducted crucial security audits, all while actively contributing to the growth of the Web3 ecosystem.

Knowledge Sharing and Community Engagement

Our commitment to education and community building was evident throughout the year. Our team delivered talks and workshops at prominent events, including:

• ETH Prague: 3 workshops on Maths for ZKP, zkML, and auditing.
• Web3 Security Summit Belgrade: Presentations on zero-knowledge security best practices.
• Verifiable Summit Warsaw: A workshop on auditing zero-knowledge contracts.
• ETH Sofia: Panel discussion on Decentralized AI.
• ETH Zurich: Talk on “Essential Maths for ZKPs.”
• ETH Kuala Lumpur: A workshop on zkML.
• Web3 Summit Berlin: Two workshops on zkML and essential maths for ZKPs.
• ETH Oxford: A talk about the founding of the Oxford Blockchain Society.
• ETH Naples: Talks on essential maths for ZKPs and zkML.

Our “Essential Maths for Zero Knowledge Proofs” and “zkML — machine learning with privacy” workshops were particularly well-received.
The rapidly evolving field of zkML is popular with developers, and we will continue to contribute to this area in 2025..

Beyond presenting, we actively participated in key Web3 events, including Zk Hack Krakow, ETH Rome, ETH Bucharest, zkSummit 11 and 12, ZKProof Conference, Minacon in Istanbul, DeFi Security Summit and the big one: Devcon in Bangkok.
Of course one of the pleasures when attending these events is the chance to catch up with old friends and students from our bootcamps.

Team Growth and Expertise

To support our growing ambitions, We welcomed new talent to our team:

• Erick: Joined to provide expertise in Marketing and Rust development.
• Giuseppe: Joined to head up our smart contract auditing team.
• Stefano: Joined as a blockchain engineer.
• Kirsty: We welcomed Kirsty back to the team to assist with security and auditing.

This expansion has allowed us to broaden our services and deepen our expertise across key areas.

Security Audits: Securing the Future of Blockchain

We continued our commitment to blockchain security in 2024, providing auditing services to clients old and new. We completed multiple audits, including those for PWN protocol, Whirl DeFi protocol and Stakingverse.
We were among the first teams to audit zkApps on Mina. After their successful hard fork in the summer, we conducted audits for zkNoid and ID-mask. Our collaboration with zkOK and the Mina Developer Alliance has increased our reach in the Mina ecosystem.

Empowering Developers Through Education

We believe in empowering the next generation of blockchain developers. In 2024, we continued to deliver education, across a variety of technologies:

• Encode.club: Our long-standing collaboration (over 4 years) with Encode continued. We delivered bootcamps covering Advanced Solidity, Move Language, Solana, Zero Knowledge Proofs, zkEVM and zkML, reaching hundreds of developers.
• Mina Developer Alliance: We collaborated on a course promoting security on Mina through collaborative auditing.
• Mina Foundation: Partnered to develop an introductory course for Mina developers and taught the Mina Navigators program for Mina zkApp developers.

Development

It is always good to roll up our sleeves and get hacking, in the summer we participated in a Starknet hackathon, and from that came the Proof of Speed project: a way to show on Starknet that your claim of completion of a speed run in a game is correct. Thanks to a grant from the Starknet Foundation we are continuing to develop this project.

Key events

Some stand out moments for us this year :

• The Mina upgrade in June
• Devcon : always special, and twice as large this year.
• Minacon : it is rare to see such energy and innovation.
• Defi Security Summit : practical ideas to avoiding getting rekt.
• ZKProof conference and zkSummits : the pace of change is astonishing.

Looking Ahead

And what of 2025. I am excited, not just because we are (probably still) in a bull market, but more that thanks to progress in zkp, zkml, decentralised AI, we have a wealth of possibilities before us. There is so much happening and so many talented people innovating in this space that I feel we are spoilt for choice with new directions.
We expect to see significant progress in

• Agentic Web3
• Decentralised Science
• Decentralised AI
• Modular Proof generation and Proving markets

As for Extropy we will continue our mission to improve web3 security and to educate and inspire people coming to Web3, look out for us at conferences during the year.
You will forgive us if we indulge ourselves a little and explore some new technologies for the sheer fun of it, so also expect to see us at some hackathons trying out new ideas.
